Description

The Capitano del Popolo is a charming and elegant apartment situated on the fourth floor of the ancient Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, a building that played an extremely important role in the early Medieval politics of Cortona when the town was a city state. The Capitano del Popolo was the historical figure who traditionally represented the people of the city. This big palazzo overlooks the main square of the town, Piazza della Repubblica, giving a cross-section of the daily life in Cortona. The apartment has a huge bright sitting room (63 sqm) that comprises a dining area and various comfortable sitting areas, where 4 large sofas, accomodating up to 12 people, look onto the open fireplace. It is decorated with ancient prints and modern paintings. A wooden winding staircase leads you up to a loft (not suitable for children) ideal for reading and relaxing, being equipped with a comfortable sofa and a rich library. The kitchen is very well fitted. There are 2 bedrooms, one with a double bed and large wardrobe and a bedroom with twin beds. There is also a beautiful bathroom with bathtub that has been restored exposing its original stone walls and another bathroom with shower. There is also a small studio which commands a stunning view on the Chiana Valley, where an extra bed can be put on request. The Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo gives you a unique opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of the town centre of Cortona, walking through its beautiful alleys, shoppping in the characteristic antique's shops and sipping a delicious glass of wine in one of the numerous coffee bars.

Hi Kiki/Vittorio I'm a friend of K. -she stayed in your wonderful apartment 11 September until 16th or so. I may be returning to Tuscany for 3-6 months, probably in January 2008. Would you be interested in renting the apartment possibly February and March? What would the rates be? Just for me, 1 person. Thank you! Ciao, P.
