Description

Set in beautiful hilly position, San Martino agli Ulivi 1 is the bigger of the two apartments that compose the farmhouse having the same name, inspired by the 800 olive trees that surround the property and from which the owners obtain great olive oil. On one of the stones of the old barn you can see a date inscribed: 1895; however the original core of the house - which without foundations lays on the flank of the hill - dates back to the 1600. During the accurate renovation of the family estate, the owners took particular care to conciliate the preservation of the original structure with the innovative techniques for sustainable constructions in order to protect the environment and to reduce energy consumption. Therefore together with the typical cotto floors, ceilings characterised by in-sight beams and bricks, you can find phytopurification system for wastewater, photovoltaic system, solar panels, thermal and soundproof cladding for the inner walls, certified window and door fixtures. Thanks to the two artesian wells, the house is also water independent.
The typical external stone staircase leads to the bright living room of the apartment at the first floor, tastefully furnished and completed by all the modern comforts: air-conditioning and mosquito webs throughout the house and WI-FI internet. In the living area there is the living room with the fireplace, double sofa-bed, satellite TV, dining table and fully equipped kitchen with pyroceram induction hob. The sleeping area is composed of two double bedrooms and two toilets with shower. The raised position of the house offers a wonderful view of the entire Val di Chiana, the best view though is from the swimming pool, situated in a panoramic position on a natural terrace, where the gaze wanders up to Montepulciano, the shape of the Monte Amiata and to the shores of the Trasimeno Lake: a landscape that colours in red at sunset in the pleasant summer nights. In order to enjoy their relaxing moments and to eat in the open air, guests have on their disposal two nice gazebos in wrought iron, one located in front of the house and the other one next to the pool. The old wood-burning oven can be used also as a BBQ. The adjacent dependance is for owners' exclusive disposal, who may occasionally live there for short periods, leaving in any case the swimming pool at guests' exclusive disposal. The farmhouse is situated few kms far from the magnificent Etruscan town of Cortona: strategic position in order to be able to visit the picturesque art villages and towns in Tuscany and Umbria and is particularly suitable for those who love mountain biking and trekking.

From the Guestbook
We being, Mum and Dad (ie Grandpa and Grandma) from Wuymouth, Dorset, England. Toby and Lauren, son and daughter in law, London, England and our son and daughter in law, with two young grand-children from Australia, all converged on this beautiful villa in Cortona, Tuscany. We were most impressed by the hig standard of the Villa, so clean and immaculate throughout. As a family we have enjoyed ourselves, big time. It has been a good experience and we thank our excellent hosts for this week.
